On the twenty-third of this month, we commemorate of our Venerable Father Tychon, who practiced asceticism in Kapsala of the Holy Mountain.

As simple and humble, Tychon,
you were deemed worthy of the glory of the Most High,
O citizen of the desert.

He had Novaya Mikhaylovka in Russia as his homeland. He was born in 1884 to pious parents, Paul and Helen, from whom he learned the Orthodox faith, piety, and love for the Lord Jesus. In the prime of his youth, he abandoned the world and, aflame with divine eros, successively withdrew to Mount Sinai, the desert of the Jordan, and the Holy Mountain. There he practiced the ascetic life in a manner pleasing to God for a total of sixty years, living at the Cell of Burazeri and in the wilderness of Karoulia and Kapsala, unceasingly glorifying the name of God.
He was distinguished by the simplicity of his ways, his humility, fasting, renunciation of possessions, and compassionate heart. As a spiritual guide to multitudes of monks and laypeople, he guided them without error toward salvation and deification. His spiritual child Paisios, together with certain other lovers of the Venerable ones, recorded his spiritual attainments for the glory of God and the honor of the Venerable Hesychast.
He was distinguished by the simplicity of his ways, his humility, fasting, renunciation of possessions, and compassionate heart. As a spiritual guide to multitudes of monks and laypeople, he guided them without error toward salvation and deification. His spiritual child Paisios, together with certain other lovers of the Venerable ones, recorded his spiritual attainments for the glory of God and the honor of the Venerable Hesychast.

Let us praise Tychon, the most radiant luminary of Russia and dweller in the wildernesses of the Holy Mountain, the simple and humble one, crying aloud to God, the ever-glorious ascetic, radiant with divine light and ever glorifying God: “Grant those who honor you to attain unfading glory.”

With the balm of Christ’s love, you heal the wounds of the souls of those who approach you with faith. Come, therefore, let us all honor the humble and simple Hieromonk, who, like a resounding trumpet, proclaimed the glory of God, crying aloud: “Rejoice, O blessed Tychon.”

An angel in asceticism, O God-bearer Tychon, you appeared as a newly radiant star of Athos in these latter times, and you were deemed worthy to partake of the glory in the dwelling places of God. Therefore, faithfully honoring you, we cry aloud:
Rejoice, nurtured son of Russia;
rejoice, crown of fasting.
Rejoice, delight of the Venerable ones of Athos;
rejoice, adornment of the Holy Fathers.
Rejoice, height of humility and blameless conduct;
rejoice, depth of goodness and heartfelt prayer.
Rejoice, you who unceasingly glorify God;
rejoice, you who continually utter the prayer.
Rejoice, true servant of God;
rejoice, adversary of the deceitful enemy.
Rejoice, staff of the Venerable Paisios;
rejoice, lamp of the longed-for Paradise.

Rejoice, O ascetic of the Holy Mountain, who pours forth the grace of God, O blessed and most renowned Tychon; rejoice, you who glorified the Lord throughout your life, unceasingly humble-minded and filled with the Spirit.
