The Visitation of Elder Eumenios to a Homosexual Couple With AIDS

By Fr. Evangelos Papanikolaou -
Priest, Medical Doctor, Author

Two of these young men were at one point discharged from the Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Attica and went back to their home, where they lived together. When they later went again to the Elder Eumenios (+ 5/23/1999) to see him, they said to him: “Elder, all this time that we have been coming here, you have fed us, given us drink, and cared for us. We also want to invite you one day to our home, so that we may take care of you.”

So the Elder said to me:

“Vangelis, we shall go.”

I said:

“Elder, where are we going? These people are…”

“Vangelis, I know, I know what they are…”

“But, Elder, these two are living together. They live in the same house. They also wear rings.”

Voria

A multi-day visit to Mount Athos and Thessaloniki will be made by the Archbishop of America, Elpidophoros, from January 18, as the head of a large delegation of 40 Greek-American businessmen.

The arrival of Elpidophoros disturbed the Athonite State and their concern was conveyed through the Holy Community, in writing, to the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

This primarily has to do with the baptism of a child of a same-sex couple by Elpidophoros, specifically of the child of a couple of expatriate businessmen on July 9, 2022 at the Church of Panagia Faneromeni in the Metropolis of Voula.

Archbishop Elpidophoros Not Welcome To Visit Mount Athos, By Unanimous Decision

The National Herald

With a catapult decision - it is without precedent - Mount Athos by unanimous decision of all the Monasteries, sent a letter to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is their canonical Bishop, informing him in a respectful way that Archbishop Elpidophoros of America is not welcome to visit the Monastic State during the third ten days of January.

The Representatives and Superiors of the Sacred Monasteries explain the reasons, which go back to what was said during the baptism of the children of the same-sex couple from America, Evangelos Bousis and Peter Douda, on July 9, 2022, in the Sacred Church of Panagia Faneromeni in the Metropolis of Voula.

The Representatives of the Monasteries write that, "we regret to have found, through the published photographs of the Archbishop of America, after the end of the mystery, a wrong impression was created regarding the acceptance by the Church of the mystery of marriage by individuals of the same sex, a message contrary to the doctrines and teaching of the Orthodox Church."
