The Miraculous Discovery of the Relics of Saint Leonides and His Companions in 1917

The commemoration of the Holy Martyr Leonides and his seven female disciples, who were also glorified as saints because of their martyrdom, is celebrated on April 16.

In 1917 their relics were discovered in the region of Nea Epidavros (Nea Epidaurus), and they have been placed in a silver reliquary and constitute a place of pilgrimage in the Church of Saint Leonides there.

The beginning of the revelation of the Church of Saint Leonides took place on April 12, 1898, after a vision seen at dawn on that day by seventeen-year-old Ioannis Georgiou Bimpis. In the vision, the Most Holy Theotokos appeared — clothed in black yet radiant — with the Divine Infant in her arms, at the very spot where the church stands today, and she instructed him to dig in that place and he would find an invaluable treasure.

After recounting the vision to his family and praying, the young man took a hoe and, at sunrise, went to the place indicated by the Panagia.

Testimonies Regarding the Miraculous Discovery of the Sacred Relics of the Holy New Martyr Akylina

Narrative of a Dream of a Pious Woman About the
Burial Place of the Holy New Martyr Akylina

Ten days after the discovery of the sacred relics of the Holy Great Martyr and Prize-Bearing Kyranna, the following miraculous event happened to me. Saint Kyranna appeared to me in a dream and spoke to me about her friend, Angelina as she called her, and that they are and coexist together.

After a few days I informed His Eminence Metropolitan John of Langada, Liti and Rentini of the dream that Saint Kyranna found me worthy me to see.

During this time, a girl appeared in my dream who told me she was Angelina and urged me to read the Supplicatory Canon of Saint Parthenios, Bishop of Lampsakis, because Nikodemos of Ierissos is being operated on, due to an illness he himself did not know about, stressing at the same time not to look elsewhere to find her, since we know where she is.

Saint Angelina who appeared to me in my dream was young in age, a tall girl with blond hair, of exceptional beauty and she was standing at the outer door that leads to the interior of the Sacred Bema of the Sacred Temple of the All-Great Taxiarches of Ossa. She was telling me how I should measure seven steps from the door near the Sanctuary of the Temple and she pointed out to me a spot where I would stand, exactly opposite, looking at the wall of the Temple and on which there was a sign of the Cross. And the Saint continued saying that there we will find her Bones and continued saying: "Wound to the bones, bitter red water."

The Vision of the Newly-Revealed Saint Vryaini to a Woman in Cyprus in 1975

Saint Vryaini or Vryoni is a Cypriot Saint, who is honored in the village of Mandria in Paphos. In Mandria there is the chapel dedicated to Saint Vryoni, which is the only chapel in the world dedicated to this Saint.

Until 1963-64 the village of Mandria in Paphos was a mixed village where both Greeks and Turks lived. In 1960 the village had 404 inhabitants. The Turkish Cypriots were 329 and the Greek Cypriots 79. When the bicommunal conflicts between the Greeks and the Turks of Cyprus took place in 1963-64, the Greek residents left their village and the village became a Turkish enclave and no Greek could go there.

In 1974, after the Turkish invasion, the Turkish Cypriots left and went to the occupied territories. Greek Cypriot refugees from the north settled in the village. The village is located next to the sea and is very close to the city of Paphos. It is also one of the most prosperous villages in Cyprus.

The Wondrous Appearances of Saint Vlasios of Akarnania to a Humble Woman Named Euphrosyne

 By Spyros Symeon

Saint Vlasios for almost a millennium was unknown to all of us. But God often keeps such saints in the dark and when He sees fit He reveals them so that people can be strengthened.

The miraculous apparitions of Saint Vlasios has several similarities with that of Saint Raphael.

It is unknown why, perhaps because of her fervent faith, her purity of heart and her innocence, he chose to appear quite often to a humble woman in the region where the Saint was martyred. Her name is Euphrosyne.

The area got the name Sklavaina because after raids most of its population were taken as slaves from there and Saint Vlasios thus took the nickname of Sklavainois. He is a Saint who frees us from the slavery of our passions.

Synaxarion of Saint Euprepia

By Metropolitan Kyrillos (Kogerakis) of Rhodes

On Thursday of Renewal Week, we commemorate Saint Euprepia.

Verses

Seemly living the law of God,
You attained glory, Holy One.

Synaxarion

We have no information about Saint Euprepia. In a place known as "Argala" on the island of Lesvos, a cruciform martyrium (a church built over the site of where a martyrdom took place or a martyr was buried) with two graves containing crushed bones was found during excavations in 1931. This archaeological site is located before the airport, next to the Elysion hotel. Also in the same area were found the ruins of a large basilica with a baptistery, which are considered to be buildings of the 6th century AD. On top of these ruins was the old Chapel of Saint Euprepia, which still exists today. Since there is no Saint with this name in the list of Saints of the Church, the question remains whether some unknown Saint with this name was martyred in Lesvos, which would explain the existence of this ancient chapel in her name.
