Anna Bezrukova recalls:
"I was a nurse from 1942-45 in Krasnoyarsk. Saint Luke loved us and taught us everything. He would advise doctors in the city hospitals.
They brought us seriously ill people, I saw that he prayed before the operation. If there was a fatal outcome, he suffered a lot, cried, locked himself in his room and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
The authorities did not even allow him to eat in the hospital canteen, he was almost always hungry. The nurses brought him food.
He never got indignant. He lived next to the hospital to be closer to the patients. He lived modestly, observed the fasts.
From 11 to 2 he operated every day.
One day I suddenly heard his voice:
'Anna!'
I was scared - perhaps I did something wrong. He said:
'You are without socks, Anna, this is not good, you will catch a cold.'
This was his attitude towards a simple nurse! You have no idea what operations I saw.
I remember they brought a medical history, the patient said:
'That's it, I have no hope of life!'
And I answered him:
'No, no, you shouldn't say that. We have a wonderful surgeon, he will save you.'
The operation was done, the patient survived and lived for many, many years.
You know, he even took a bullet out of the heart muscle."

A nurse's husband was exiled and never returned. When this nurse lost her job, the Saint helped her get back on her feet. He helped her and took care of everything. Can you imagine a Bishop Surgeon sitting with a nurse's children?
The only thing Saint Luke had was a bottle of medical alcohol and a knife. And with this kitchen knife he operated! Once he used the patient's hair for stitches... Nothing stopped him!
