Miracles of Saint Bassian of Tiksnensky

1. A woman named Elena became blind and could not see anything for six years and five months. But, having seen Saint Bassian in a dream, she came to Tiksna and, having venerated his coffin with prayer, immediately regained her sight.

2. Another woman, Justinia, who had also not seen anything for a long time, was brought to Tiksna by her mother. After attending a prayer service, both women, with the priest’s permission, stayed the night near the Saint’s coffin to pray. At the end of the night, they heard an unusual noise in the church and fell to the ground in fear. They heard voices behind the wall, and when the mother looked out the window, she saw two people talking to each other.

“Where are you going, brother,” said one, “and what are you carrying with you?”

“I am carrying holy water to wash the woman Justinia,” answered the other.

Hearing this, the mother and daughter again fell down before the grave of the Saint and began to pray with new fervor. During the prayer, Justinia heard the voices of many singing, felt that someone was sprinkling her with holy water and wiping her eyes with her clothes, but she saw nothing. Then, awakening as if from a dream, she suddenly began to see everything, as if she had never been blind.

3. The soldier's widow Matrona Gerasimovna suffered from a fever for four weeks. The illness intensified to such an extent that for two weeks the woman not only did not recognize anyone, but she did not even see the room where she was lying.

But one day she dreamed that two monks, tall in stature, in low black klobuks and white srachitsa, approached her bed. One of them stood on the right side of the sick woman's bed, and the other on the left, and the first, having ordered Matrona to pray to Saint Bassian, who was resting in the Tiksna volost, pointed with his finger at the monk standing on the left and holding a copper ladle with clean water in his hands. Then both of them, having washed the sick woman from head to toe with water from the ladle, became invisible.

Immediately after this vision, Matrona came to, regained consciousness and felt so healthy that the very next day she began to work.

With many other wondrous miracles God glorified Saint Bassian, who had clung to God and left the world, despised the flesh and was diligent about the salvation of his soul.
